Roux is a conceptual, French-bistro restaurant. Roux means rust in French, which is why the brand is heavily influenced by rusty tones and textures. Roux is also a well-known term in Culinary Arts. It is described as the thickening agent of the three mother sauces of classical French cooking; Veloute, Espagnole and Bechamel. This meaning reflects the high-quality food and French sauces that Roux is best known for serving. The logo was created from a linocut stamp to bring in a rusty texture and the swooshes under the letters portray how the restaurant presents their sauces on the plate. All branding elements were kept very minimalist and modern to contrast the classic French dishes. I used a limited colour palette to keep with the minimalistic theme and chose warm colours to represent Roux’s warm and welcoming atmosphere. Key components of this project included: branding, signage, print items, app and food photography.
